Western Australia

If a Cougar escaped from a circus trailer in the State Of Western Australia Australia?
In the 1960's, could that animal live in the bush/wild areas of Western australia for 40 years, and occassionally be sighted by people on the highways, or would the animal die, or stay in an isolated area where it remains concealed and out of the way of the human population?
It would have died of old age by now, but there are believed to be populations of big cats in some areas of Australia. There's a lot of info. on the internet about it. This site is a good one, and there are also unconfirmed reports of sightings of Tasmanian tigers (thylacines) on the Aust. mainland and in Tasmania. There have actually been many unconfirmed reports of thylacines still being alive, even though they are officially extinct. Here's the site. Obviously, not every single thing on it will be true, but it has a lot of interesting stuff there. There are a lot of other sites with interesting info. on them as well.
